Abstract
In order to assess the usefulness of the serum ferritin as a tumor marker, we
determine the value of serum ferritin according to each malignant tumor Also serum
ferritin was compared to transferrin saturation. Serum ferritin concentration was
measured in 72 cases (25 of normal control, 12 of leukemia or lymphoma, 9 case of
primary Hepatorna, 9 of Lung cancer, 12 of stomach cancer, 2 of colorectal cancer, 3 of
Adenocarcinoma of unknown primary site) by means of Radioimmunometric Assay.
Folling results were obtained.
1. Mean values of serum ferritin concentration in 25 normal control were 52.43¡¾8.43
ng/§¢(82.55¡¾40.6 ng/§¢ in 11 males, 28.77¡¾25.43 ng/§¢ in 14 females)
2. Mean values of serum ferritin concentration in 12 leukemia or lymphoma were
1175.0¡¾213.99 ng/§¢. It shows significant difference to normal control. (p<0.005)
3. Mean values of serum ferritin concentration in g primary Hepatoma were 484.44¡¾
164.15ng/§¢. It stows significant differences to normal control(P<0.05).
4. Mean values of serum ferritin concentration in 9 Lung cancer were 433.33¡¾
164.78ng/§¢. It shows significant difference to normal control. (P<0.05)
5. Mean values of serum ferritin concentration in 12 stomach cancer were 135.13¡¾
48.15 ng/§¢. It shows no significant difference to normal control.
